Welcome to NEXPRESSO, the "Network for EXchange and PRototype Evaluation of photonicS componentS and Optical systems". Beginning in July 2010, NEXPRESSO was a 3 year programme funded under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union (FP7-ICT-2009.3.7: Photonics) and ended in February 2014. NEXPRESSO was a continuation of ACCORD the Advanced Components Cooperation for Optoelectronics Research and Development.
NEXPRESSO’s objectives were to:
Purchase at marginal cost pre-competitive photonic devices from innovative European companies and put them in the hands of European researchers and students, at no net cost to the university or to the company that furnished the devices and
Facilitate transfer of device evaluation results to potential end-users, assisting companies to access new markets and new applications.
NEXPRESSO attracted over 225 participants, who registered through this website. We have had three calls for components (Type1) and one call each of Type 2 and Type 3. The calls saw 71 components submitted which attracted 39 R&D project proposals and we have funded 9 projects purchasing components from companies to the value of EUR 255,000.
88% of participants felt that overall NEXPRESSO had been a success. 80% of participants were new to NEXPRESSO, most of them had been encouraged to take part by one of the consortium members or had read the newsletter. 63% of projects have led to an ongoing collaboration between the industry supplier and the R&D group.
You can read about some of the projects we funded, and learn about how we managed and organised the project through the publicly available deliverables. This is the project's Publishable Executive Summary.
